Official Cover

Here is the official cover for the new book. Bogus Froglouski has been removed from the initial mock-up. He is now the sole-owner of the back cover of the book and I think I may like it more than the front. You'll see why soon...

It takes guts

The guts of the new book is finally complete.

Some people have been asking why I'm producing this book myself. There are a number of reasons why and believe me, it was not an easy decision to reach. The two biggest reasons are because I have an existing customer base from my art sales and previous book. Its apparent from their comments and emails that they are anxiously awaiting this next title. In addition to that, I fear waiting a long time for a publishing deal could be detrimental to the momentum I have with my current customers.

I did take the time to submit the book to some publishers and agents, not alot, but a handful I thought would be appropriate for the story. I received the standard rejection from most submissons, but there were a few who took some time and gave feedback. There were things they liked about the story, but not enough to make anyone bite.

I did also experienced a few agents who told me they reviewed my submission and replied it was not right for them, when in fact, I had only sent them an email asking how they prefer to receive the materials. This told me they were not even reading the emails, just summarily handing out rejections. There were also a few I never heard back from at all.

None of this surprises me, not being cynical here, I just realize the industry moves at a much slower and different pace than myself. I'm okay with all this, because I learned long ago not everyone will love what you do. My work lands strongest with those who have a sense of humor and a sense of adventure. That is who I'm focused on.

Darn Gophers!

Living next to a cornfield, I should have expected gopher trouble. But little did I know what destruction these varmits would bring to my front yard. I've tired everything, filliing in their holes, flooding their den, hanging beer bottles in a nearby tree and even pouring my 3 year old's pee-pee (he's potting training) down their holes. All has failed.

So, I called in expert, Gordon from Gopher Gitters. He got the gopher with one trap, one try. However, the victory was short-lived. A week later a new gopher moved in.

Wish I could deploy some Gekkards to handle this one.

Congratulations

Congratulations to David & Jessica as they exchange their wedding vows tomorrow. They are fans of the Gekkards who I met at a Prescott, AZ art show in 2007. Jessica emailed me awhile back and requested if they could use my "Sweethearts" image on their wedding invitations. The Gekkards were honored and happy to accommodate as they made their second appearance on a wedding invite. The first was my own. Many happy returns to you both!

In the music...

I'm about one week away from completing the guts of my new book, To See the Sea. The past few months have proven to be the most intensive work period of my career. With 35 pages of full-color art, there are so many details to get right. Thank goodness for good music, like the latest from Trashcan Sinatras, one of my very favorite bands. Titled, In the Music, their new album has certainly energized my studio for the final push.
